Diocese of The Great Lakes

In March 2024, the Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan (which included St. Christopher’s) and the Episcopal Diocese of Eastern Michigan, agreed to a “juncture,” or merger, to better manage administrative matters.

In May, church committee reviews unanimously voted to endorse this merger. The final step will be approval by the full church in June at National Convention.

At this point, it looks likely we will soon be part of the Diocese of The Great Lakes. Here is a bit more on the process from our current diocese, the Diocese of Western Michigan.

Though this effort will continue for a while, we do not expect any significant impact to St. Christopher’s. Our Vestry and Pastor Chrysanne are tracking the work ahead and will ensure things continue smoothly for our parish.

The new Diocese of the Great Lakes (a named voted on by members of both dioceses) will be part of the Episcopal Church in the United States. The Episcopal Church in turn is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, the third largest Christian communion worldwide with about 80 million active members.
